music marketing blog #1

When my group first got together, we analyzed every song that was assigned to us and discussed which one was the best option to make a music video on. We wanted to pick a song that would be easy to do and since we were going for a storytelling music video, we wanted a song that would be appropriate to tell a story and at the same time, match with the song. After listening to all of them, we decided that the song would be “Sent my love” by Adele. After we picked the song, we made a schedule that would best fit all of us so that we could be organized and practice for the presentation. For the powerpoint, we decided to color code the slide each one of us is going to make so that we don't forget the number of slide that we each are going to do and which slide are we going to make.

After picking the song, we started to brainstorm for the music videos. We wanted a story that would be the song but not too much since it would be too cheesy. One of the girls got an idea that we all liked and went off on that. The original idea, was for the girl on the video to write the song and at the end, sing it to her ex-lover and his new girl on a stage. The problem with this is that it would be hard to find the stage and we could have used the auditorium, however there is the theater class and the clubs after school so it would be impossible to record. After some time, we all came up with a different idea, but with the same concept. So instead of the whole auditorium thing, the girl would be coming home from a breakup, and she’s frustrated so she gets a guitar and starts writing a song. While she’s writing, she gets flashbacks of the relationship, and she is still frustrated because she can’t come up with anything. She goes outside to the park to calm down and brings her journal with her. While she is at the park, she sees her ex-lover with a new girl, and she gets inspired by it. At the end, she is able to write the song and sends a letter to her ex’s new lover. We decided to do a letter, since the lyrics goes “Send my love to your new lover” and we thought of sending her love in a letter to her ex.

After we got our story for the video, we went into more in-depth by thinking about the set design, shots and angles and the representation. First, we needed to pick a filming location and after discussing, we decided to film at one of my family member’s house, which I think is perfect to shoot the video and tell the story and it is more practical for all of us since it is not far away. We also thought about all the props that we had to bring to use on the video like a picnic blanket and the letter. We also had to know what the girl was going to wear, since she was going to be in different situations like for example, the flashback for the picnic, she would be wearing something appropriate for the occasion, which in this case is a sundress. We also thought carefully about the shots and angles in order to be able to portray the story clearly and to not have any unnecessary shots on the video.

CREATIVE CRITICAL REFLECTION

In one of the videos, it sounds like one of my family member is dying but I swear, my Aunt is okay. https://drive.google.com/file/d/15RVz-t4...
