Music Marketing Blog Post #2

We first started by picking the music that would be the best to create a story off from. After I got the files with different types of genres in it, my group started to listen to each one of them carefully. After analyzing each one of them and looking up the lyrics, we came down to the decision that the best song to do would be “Send My Love”. We found it easy to make a story out of this song, since it is basically a song about heartbreak and kind of like a revenge breakup song at the same time. After we decided that we were going with this sing, we made a schedule so that we would be more organized and finish each of the things on time to make time for the editing and the PowerPoint.

After we were set on the song, we started to brainstorm ideas for the story. Each one of us gave an idea to start off the story, but we weren’t coming up with anything good until one of our group members had an idea that we all agreed on. She came up with the idea of a girl being broken up with, and then writing a song about it and at the end, she would sing it to her ex- lover at like an auditorium. This was a solid start for us, she after that we started coming up with very good ideas for the storyline. We ended keeping the girl writing the song, but we switched the idea of the auditorium since we didn’t know where to go and we could have used the one that’s in the school, but it would most likely be busy with after school activities. So instead, the video is going to be about the process of her writing the songs and remembering what she once had with her ex-lover. At the end, she got inspired by her seeing the guy with a new girl and she actually started to write, sending the song in a letter to his ex-lover’s new girl. After we had our story, we started to do the storyboard so that we would have a better idea of what it would look like and the shots and angles we wanted to use.

We had the storyline done but we had to also think about the setting and the props that we had to bring and the guy. We decided to it was going to be at my family member’s house, each one of us brining the props that we needed, and the guy ended up being my brother. We decided to meet at the house on a Saturday at 11:30 and as soon as we got there, we started with the production process. We started shooting outside of the house, with the first shot being of the car pulling up on the garage. The shots from the outside were not that hard but we tried various shots and angles so that it would look good. After finishing the outside shots, we went inside the house to record most of the shots. One of the challenges was when the girl was throwing the frames, since they kept falling apart and we had to be careful to not break the glass, which at the end she did break one, but everyone was okay. Actually, you can see the shot of the broken glass on the video. After finishing the shots on the inside of the house, we went outside to this little backyard to shoot the flashback scenes with my brother. The only difficult thing was the weather since we didn’t know if it was going to rain or not, so we had to shoot quickly. We set up the picnic and start shooting. Everything went smoothly during these shots and after recording this one, we went and did the shot of her seeing her ex-lover with the other girl, which was also successful. And to wrap it up with the last shot, the girl ends up sending the letter to her ex-lover’s girl.

The video was done, and we had to work on the PowerPoint and the editing of the video. Some of the group members were working on the editing and the others were working on the PowerPoint. I worked on the PowerPoint with one of the group members, making sure that we had a theme, and the information was correct so that it would be easy to understand the decisions we made. We also made sure that the PowerPoint didn’t have too much information and instead had the right amount of words so that the people wouldn’t get bored. We ended up going for a dark color palette and adding pictures of what each slide was about. I also made the website so that you could find the artist. While making the PowerPoint, the group members editing would show us what the video looked like so far to see if the shots for each scene were right.

The presentation of this project was good. Each one of us knew what to say and I think each slide was told in detail. We did reference the PowerPoint to see what we were going to talk about so that we wouldn’t be lost. Luckily, there were not technical difficulties during our presentation, so we were able to show the website and the music video without a problem. Although we did know the material, sometimes we would get stuck on something and didn’t know how to say it in a way that people would understand so I think that we could of practice a bit more so that we would be more comfortable presenting the material. But it wasn’t a huge issue where we didn’t know what to say.

I think that this project was a preview to the Cambridge portfolio project, as we also have to make a video. I learned that the recording process can take a lot, since you have to keep in mind the shots and angles that you are using to portray the story correctly. I also learned that the brainstorming and planning of any project in general is important because it helps you be creative a put your ideas out there and if it’s a group project like this one, it is good because you can have a really good idea and base you project off from that, plus the ideas that your group members get. It also helps you to have a schedule, since it is important to be organized because without order, anything could go wrong and it would cause the group to have miscommunications.

CREATIVE CRITICAL REFLECTION

In one of the videos, it sounds like one of my family member is dying but I swear, my Aunt is okay. https://drive.google.com/file/d/15RVz-t4...
